About Me:
“A religion old or new, that stressed the magnificence of the universe as revealed by modern science, might be able to draw forth reserves of reverence and awe hardly tapped by the conventional faiths. Sooner or later, such a religion will emerge”–Carl Sagan, Pale Blue Dot (1994)
“You can't refuse it. Thou art God and I am God and all that groks is God, and I am all that I have ever been or seen or felt or experienced. I am all that I grok”–Robert Heinlein, Stranger in a Strange Land (1961)
“Life changed those irascible wastes into shapes of grace and movement, he thought. That was the message of the desert. Contrasted stunned him with realization. He wanted to…shout at them: If you need something to worship, then worship life–all life, every last crawling bit of it! We're all in this beauty together!”–Frank Herbert, Dune Messiah (1969)
I'm a teacher of languages, history and geography, Reform Jewish-Buddhist-secular-kind-of-making-it-all-up-as-I-go type person. Let's see…I also practice and teach meditation (partial to vipassana and Zen), am vegetarian-turning-vegan, and believe in deep ecology and logic. Currently researching and writing a book on the implications of Buddhist meditation for transcending the emotions–sort of a “practical guide to being Vulcan,” to emply modern mythos! Oh, yes, and I'm also a stereotypical ENFJ, which makes the whole “emotional control” thing a rather peculiar goal…still working it all out, but have a bit of walking left to go…just a bit of the Universe being aware of itself for a brief moment in the unfolding of spacetime…
